What is ARK?

Ark stands for "Acts of Random Kindness"

The economy...it's all anyone talks about. The price of hay has risen dramatically, land is fast disappearing as are our wild horses. While hundreds of people still continue to discard their horses at auctions that make the killer buyers happy, these rescues are stepping up to the plate and helping the horses.

So what I have done is compile a list of legitimate rescues to donate to for those of us that wish to help along with other resources.

Give an act of random kindness today and help the horses

HELP US BUILD THE ARK. SEND US NAMES OF RESCUES YOU FEEL ARE WORTHY.

The Story of Bella~

I knew the minute I saw her I had to buy her. She stood, apart from the rest of the horses, depressed, covered in flies but too despondent to care. Yet she was beautiful to me. Parts of her Golden coat shined in the sunlight. Her spirit called out to me. Yet her physical body never moved. The whole time I was going over her. She never moved.

Her name was Aspen Gold but I changed it to Bella immediately. I took her home and nurtured her spirit and body back to health. Bella came around. She loved to give rides to my grandchildren. She was gentle and caring. She never bonded with my other horses though. Always stood off by herself. Until the day I brought Annie home. Annie was a PMU filly. A little pistol. Never handled except to have a halter put on. Probably without her consent. The story of Annie is another one entirely but for this story she played a big part. When my world went topsy Turvy and came tumbling down. I had to rehome my horses. All the strong ones had to go because I knew that could re-adjust. All except Bella.

Bella went to a boarding facility. But she lost her vitality again. Her Annie was gone. She was again a broken Spirit. We spent many days together crying. The day I got the call from the Barn Owner is a day I will never forget. I could hear it in her voice. I knew it was time. Bella had fallen and could not get up. I won't go into all the details of her failing health. But I believe that horses love. And horses need families to belong to. And when we separate them it sometimes breaks their hearts. I think Bella gave up the fight. And as I sat with her with her head on my lap waiting for the Vet. I sobbed. And on top of the pain of putting her down I had to deal with the costs of doing so. I had to borrow the money and sell items like tack and water troughs. If I had had a program like NHN'S ARK what a difference it would have made!

I still wonder if I did the right thing to put her down. I will always miss her. I will always love her.

RIP My Bella
